Motorola One Action, The Game Changer For Motorola???

Updated: Apr 17, 2020

Motorola as a brand has always provided satisfaction to it's users whether it may in Design, Camera, Or Performance. Though the company is going through some ups and down but still the company is trying hard to capture the market it was owning once. Being the one series the One Action has the same design as that of the Motorola One Vision. The most touted feature of the smartphone is the Ultra Wide Angle Lens that gives a GoPro like stability.

So what the phone packs in for us. ee what the phone packs in for us.

Highlights

✓ Innovative Camera

✓ Decent Battery life of upto one day

✓ Exynos 9609 Processor

Camera

Let's get started with one of the most touted feature of the Motorola One Action is its ability to shoot stable videos with its new 117 degrees Ultra Wide Angle lens. You might think that all latest smartphone come with an Ultra Wide Angle lens but where it differs is it's ability to shoot more stable videos just like a GoPro, also it can shoot landscape videos/photos even when you are holding it in portrait mode due to the reverse orientation from the additional angle. This feature helps many user as there is a natural habbit of shooting in potrait mode and using Ultra Wide Angle Lens you can shoot it landscape. The Ultra Wide Angle Lens has a great stability, thanks to EIS. I myself tried to shoot while running, skateboarding and many such physical activities and believe the camera does a decent job. You can also shoot at 1080p using the lens. But no OIS or autofocus is provided. There is also a slight jello effect in the corners.Colours are quite saturated and dynamic range is good at 30fps. The action cam also posses the ability to capture at night with low noise and colour accuracy.

Moving on to the other two cameras at the rear, they are basically the Motorola One Vision replica. The Primary camera is of 12 megapixel and can shoot a 4K videos but obviously low stabilization. The colours, clarity and dynamic range are quite decent. But the conditions apply on in proper lighting or in well-lit areas while in dark lights or at night the camera struggles a lot. The footage in night mode is basically over processed and noise is added over it.

While the 5 megapixel is dedicated for the potrait mode. The potrait mode does a decent job and differentiates the subject from the surrounding.

The punch hole cutout houses a 12 megapixel selfie camera in the front. The selfie camera results in a good image but lags in some minute clarity. But the most beloved part of One Action for me is the "Action Camera" or the Ultra Wide Angle lens. The camera is as perfect as it is claimed.

Design

The Motorola One Action has the same design as that of the Motorola One Vision.

The smartphone comes with a 21:9 aspect ratio. This feature makes the screen a bit taller than other smartphones. The tall aspect ratio reminds us of the Sony Xperia 10 Plus.

While the tall screen gives a benefit of more vertical space for texting and scrolling apps.

Not to offend but the punch hole cutout for the selfie cam seems to be more bigger and more obstrutive than the other smartphones.

We can apply more options to hide it, but they all seem to make no sense at all. Either we can apply a huge black bar on the top or black area to other spots to balance the punch hole cam. The rear fingerprint scanner is positioned well. Yes you've read it right Motorola has placed a rear fingerprint sensor unlike most of other smartphone companies who are optimistic towards the in-display fingerprint scanner. There is no notification LED so everytime you get a notification dispaly turns on. The button placement is nice with a ✓ feedback when pressed. The left side has a power button while the right has a volume rocker.

The bottom of the smartphone has the speaker grille and microphone grille with our goodie, the 3.5mm audio jack. The sound quality is also pretty decent through the loudspeaker on the other hand through earphones the quality is just awesome with good clarity and stereo separation .

To conclude overall, the built quality of the smartphone is good. But the design seems to be the replica of the One Vision. Motorola could have done it more aesthetically appealing.

Display

The smartphone offers a 6.3 IPS LCD display which looks around 430 PPI to be precise.

Th screen has 21:9 aspect ratio the only benefit with such taller screen seems to me is that you can get a more feed for your Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and apps that require a vertical mode. But this features compromises the accessibility of one handed function.

The screen looks sharp but other specs like contrast and colour are more accurate on other LCD. The colurs are vibrant with decent viewing angles and sunlight legibility.

Performance

The smartphone offers the same processor Exynos 9609 that we witnessed in the One Vision. The Exynos 9609 is not that bad processor to do everyday tasks, it also outshines some of the Qualcomm Snapdragon mid end processor. It also has a pretty decent Benchmark score. There are some performance issues while playing the high end android games like the PUBG Mobile as the performance hiccups.

The Smartphone runs on the latest android system Android 9 Pie. Also being of One series it is free from ads and bloatware which is amazing. The battery capacity is of 3,500 mAh with a 15 W Turbopower fast charging. The smartphone manages to get around 5 hours of on screen time with minimal or normal usage. ues while playing the high end android games like the PUBG Mobile & Asphalt 9 Legends.

Official Verdict

The decent display and dynamic design manages to get more points at the pricing of ₹13,999/-

The performance is optimal with decent battery life. But the major highlighting is the Action Camera with the GoPro like footage which is as true and good in any of the situation as described by the company.

The ability of the smartphone to shoot vertical videos even in landscape mode adds a bonus to it. Thus it ends to a conclusion by the ReviewGo Team "The Motorola One Action Is The Ultimate Standard". You can buy the smartphone from Flipkart website
